Phil Riehl has been a student in the Visual Communications Program at Chemeketa Community College for the past two years. During this time, I have worked very closely with Phil as his major instructor and academic advisor.
Phil is very easy to work with, seeks direction and improvement and has developed a high level of skill in graphics and web design. He is thorough and creative in his approach to design and works hard for original solutions. He is thoughtful and well spoken and presents his work well.
Phil seeks new challenges in technology, learning new software and techniques with ease. His we work is cleanly designed and technically accurate. He researches and explores solutions, following through with thorough and professional methodology. Phil sets high standards for himself, meets deadlines, follows process and is always both creative and reliable.
Phil is very likable and professional and has been a great asset to the program. I recommend him highly.

"I highly recommend Phil Riehl as a graphic arts employee. As an instructor in the Visual Communications department at Chemeketa Community College, I had Phil in several classes, and saw him often in the VC department. Phil was one of the most responsible and easy to work with students I have had. It was always a pleasure having him in my classes.
"Phil listened to instructions and completed his assignments on time and beyond my expectations. He never complained or made excuses. He simply got to work and finished his projects. His ability to consistently produce and be on time was even more remarkable since Phil finished the program in only two years, a feat he alone in his class accomplished.
"I have seen his ability to work alone or as part of a group. When I needed a student to help me coordinate class in editing and imposing a booklet we were working on, I asked Phil to help me. I knew he could listen to the requirements, and help the other students understand and meet those requirements. His patience, kindness and good attitude were infectious, and contributed to other student's success.
"Phil is talented at both the technical, electronic tools of design, and at the creative, aesthetic principles of design. He can critique his own work, and take a piece from concept to finished piece without arduous input from his instructors. He has a good feel for typography and layout–he understands what works and he does things right. If I were an employer, I would hire Phil without hesitation."

"Phil Riehl is one of those rare individuals that not only knows how to code a Web page, but also has a demonstrated talent for the visual aspect of Web design. In every project I've assigned, he has taken it three steps beyond what was required, producing some of the best work of the class. His unrivaled work ethic, strong design skills, and approachable manner all ensure his success as a Web designer and developer."

"It has been my privalege to have Phil Riehl as a student in my classes over the past two years. Phil Riehl is an exceptional student.
"The Visual Communications program at Chemeketa is an extremely challenging program. Most students who complete the program take three years to finish the required classes. Phil completed the program in two years demonstrating his commitment to the program and his personal success. I was impressed with his interest in learning in a course that I teach, Interactive Media. In completing his term project he went beyond the stated project requirements. This required additional personal research on his part and collaboration with his peers on problem solving. Only when he encountered the most difficult problems did he come to me for guidance and direction. These are the qualities and skillls of successful learners. I have seen Phil apply these skills throughout his experience at Chemeketa.
"I have found him to be a strong leader by his example and his attitude. Phil always had a positive attitude and helped other students to mantain a positive outlook in how they viewed their assignments. Phil has always taken personal responsibility for the quality of his work. Most design work needs revision. Phil has never given excuses when his work has been critiqued and needed revision, but instead focused on exactly how his work may be improved.
"Phil is determined to succeed. I have found more than anything else, students who are motivated and apply good learning techniques; succeed. Phil is an extrememly motivated student that accepts learning challenges and meets them."
